Pokerstars Changes Third Party Tools Policy On March 4, 2019

What are the changes and what should we pay attention to?

Biggest changes are in following two categories:

-Seating scripts (all seating script that involve game selection are prohibited).

-Starting hand charts and reference material (only basic charts for play in an “unopened pot” can be used, all other charts are prohibited).

-There are also some changes in category: Player Tracking Databases and HUDs,
this is the category that we are mostly interested in so we are going to publish it in full:

“ Player Tracking Databases and HUDs

1.3) Tools or services that monitor and display numerical-based statistics in-game, but make use of only information that you have accumulated through your own play. Furthermore, there are qualitative limitations on any statistics displayed in-game, such as not being able to be split based on card values. There are also feature limitations of tools and services displaying statistics in-game, such as not being able to automatically change displayed statistics based on game state or opponent tendencies.

We determine that there are two main components to these software packages:

  1. the tracking application itself, that parses hand histories, stores information in a database and returns ad-hoc user-requested reports.
  1. Heads-Up Displays (HUDs), that are the in-game retrieval of statistics of players currently at a table. This typically involves panels of information that are overlaid on top of the poker table itself, but does extend to include any information, whether it be an external window or otherwise, that includes information on players participating in the current playing session.

There are virtually no restrictions to what the tracking applications can do with the data in terms of what, how and when data is displayed, providing:

  • the tracking application is not used to merely mimic the features of an otherwise prohibited HUD;
  • the underlying data only contains information from hands in which the end-user personally participated in.* This includes the editing of client player note files, per a user defined criteria, being acceptable providing this is not done in a real-time, HUD-replicating-like fashion. HUDs may:
  • Display an unlimited number of numerical based statistics on the frequencies of specific actions having occurred by the respective player**, providing it is calculated from hands in which the end-user personally participated.
  • Include “pop-up” based HUD functionality to further display additional statistics.
  • Alter the colour or font of an individual statistic based on two different thresholds. For example, a HUD may show a VPIP statistic in red if it is less than 20%, white if it is between 20%-30% and green if it is greater than 30%. However, the thresholds must be raw values and cannot be dynamically calculated or population-percentile based.

HUDs may not:

  • Have statistics that are split based on card values. For example, AGGRESSION FREQUENCY is fine, AGGRESSION FREQUENCY ON FLUSH DRAW BOARDS is not. Similarly, COUNT OF AKO WHEN 3-BET would also be prohibited.
  • Dynamically change based on any details of the current game state, aside from game format and opponent usernames. For example, altering statistics shown based on stack sizes or table position is prohibited.
  • Dynamically change based on player/opponent tendencies. For example, displaying FOLD TO CBET but only for players that have high folds to continuation bets is prohibited.
  • Rate, label, categorise or stereotype players based on their tendencies.
  • Display graphical representations of more than one numerical data point. For example, bet size / hand strength scatter plots are prohibited but a 0-100 “temperature gauge” representation of a player’s VPIP is permitted.
  • Display statistics or information that is not based upon the corresponding opponent’s details.
For example, displaying any hand chart is prohibited.

* We do allow tracking applications to import a limited number of observed hand histories (up to 30 per playing session), in order to initialise HUD data prior to commencing play. This feature must be tightly controlled and not exploitable by end-users under any circumstances. Failure to ensure this will result in the prohibition of the tool.
** Meaning statistics have to be raw counts of events occurring / count of event opportunities, and not adjusted by other information such as population based tendencies

After a long wait we finally finished our major HUD update this week.
What is new in 1.05 version?

-2 new Panels on Heads-Up HUD
-10 new pop-up Panels on Heads-Up HUD
-64 new advanced postflop stats on Heads-Up HUD
-3 new preflop stats on Heads-Up HUD
-10 new postflop stats on 3-Handed HUD
-General bug fixes

Heads-Up HUD v1.05 is now an Advanced Heads Up-HUD

We made many big changes and improvements in our Heads-Up HUD.
Heads Up HUD is now designed in a way that simple, often used stats are displayed on 7 main panels, and advanced stats are hidden in 15 pop-up panels.
If you are playing versus recreational players and players that you have a small number of hands played with, you will only need the stats on main panels, and you will most likely never need any of the advanced stats in pop-ups.
If you are playing versus regular player or some other player with big sample of hands, you can use pop-up panels to get a better picture of the opponent tendencies and potential leaks.

Our old Heads-Up HUD was initially intended to be a very simplified version of Heads-Up HUD with focus on playing recreational players and players that we have a small sample of hands played with. The HUD performed excellently in those scenarios, but after a while it became apparent that our Heads-Up HUD, because of its simplicity and lack of advanced stats, is not the best choice when we are playing regular players that we have a big sample with. Some of the important turn and river stats where missing from the old HUD and it was hard to get a good read on some of our opponent’s tendencies.

This is why we decided to add many new features to our Heads-Up HUD. New features are:

  • 2 new postflop panels for ISO and 3-Bet pots.
  • 10 new postflop pop-up panels
  • 64 new advanced postflop stats
  • 3 new preflop stats (4-bet preflop)

Advanced postflop stats are broken down into 10 pop-up panels. This way the HUD will remain compact and excellent for playing recreational players, and versus regular players we now have the option to use pop-ups to check the more advanced statistics.
These changes will give our users quick access to some very important turn and river stats crucial for beating regular players.
Many of these stats cannot be found on any other commercially available Heads-Up HUD at this time so we are confident that our users will have an opportunity to get an edge vs most of regular players in today’s games if the information obtained from our Hud is used in a correct manner.

We all know how important it is to look at our opponent’s HUD stats during the Spin and Go tournament, trying to find the leaks in their strategy and the things that we can exploit, but what about our own stats?
Do you know what are your own stats and where are the leaks in your own strategy?

-Do you know if your VPIP is too low or too high?

-Are you 3-betting and isolating to much or too little?

-Are you folding too much or too little when faced with 3-bets or isolation raises?

-What about your post-flop play?

-How much are you c-betting and how much are you folding to c-bets?

-Are you check-raising enough?

You can find answers to all these and many more questions easily with our Spin and go HUD.
Looking at your own HUD stats in PT4 and analyzing your own game is extremely important as you try to improve as a Spin and Go player.
Finding the leaks in your strategy and actively trying to fix those leaks is the quickest way to success.

WPN network changed their Jackpot Poker rules recently and hand histories are now written to your local hard drive.
This is a great news for us because now it is possible to use HUD on Jackpot SNG tables on Winning Poker Network (WPN).

I was very excited to play few games at PokerKings website and test our Spin and Go HUD on that site.

Setting Up a HUD was easy and I was very happy how everything worked when I was playing a single table.
When I tried to add more tables there where some issues unfortunately.
Every time when you open more than one table there is a HUD popup and you have to manually assign the HUD to the right table. This is not a big problem if you are only playing 2 or 3 tables but it could become annoying if you are playing 4 or more tables.

Have a look at how our Spinngo Pro HUD looks at WPN Jackpot Poker tables:

I had a great time Playing Jackpots with a HUD, the games are very profitable.
Grinding on this network sound like a much better option now.
Most sites on WPN network offer great VIP rewards, rakeback, deposit bonuses and weekly races with excellent prizes, so if you are looking for a new place to play I recommend that you try Jackpot Poker.

When Pokerstars removed their famous supernova VIP system earlier this year many players have started to look for alternative place to play their favourite 3-handed Jackpot poker tournaments.
Many players used to receive nice rakeback payments every month so removal of the VIP system will be considerable cut in their profits.

This is why we decided to find out if the Pokerstars is the only site worth playing on, or are there alternative sites that offer Spin and go and similar formats.
Past few months we looked at all these alternative websites and poker networks. We played on each of them, looked extensively at each format and made this list for you.

  • Traffic can be slow in non-peak hours
  • I personally don’t feel comfortable having lots of money on any site that accepts USA players

OTHER OPTIONS:

PartyPoker Hero (4-handed Bounty SNG)

I really like this format, it is completely different than any other spin and go game.
The bounty consideration changes the strategy significantly and nobody knows how to play the format properly. This makes the games super-soft with majority of players being really fishy. If you are willing to spend little bit of time to study the bounty format these games can become really profitable.

Blast Sit’n’Goes – 4-handed (888 Poker)

I don’t recommend this format to anyone trying to play professionally. The game last 6 minutes (8 minutes for bigger prizes) and then everyone is all-in until someone wins.
These games can be fun if you are looking for occasional quick game but I would rather avoid them is possible.

Fortune Spin 3- Handed (GG Network)

Fortune Spin is completely different format than any other jackpot SNG games.
When you register for the game the Fortune Wheel starts spinning to determine the prize. You can spin Fortune Cookie, 4X and 8X multipliers.
If you spin Fortune Cookie you receive the Cookie Card and there is no game taking place. You have to collect 10 different cards to be able to exchange them for cash.
I haven’t done the math to calculate if these games are profitable or not but I really don’t like the idea. Registering for a game, paying a buy-in and not being able to play the game 50% of time when you spin Fortune Cookie is not very appealing, especially when you get Fortune Cookie 5-10 times in a row.

CONCLUSION:

Pokerstars is nor the only poker site out there, there are many smaller sites and poker networks that offer alternatives to Spin and Go format and all of them have much better rewards than Pokerstars.

In my opinion, playing Spin and Goes on any site from our top 5 list is better than playing on Pokerstars right now, especially for low stakes and mid stakes players where traffic is not a problem.
Playing poker without rakeback is giving money away and playing Spin and Gos without rakeback is foolish.

Winning money at poker is getting harder every year, and you have to be a really good player to win money  consistently, month after month.
To become a good poker player you have to study a lot. You also have to use the right tools to study.
Here are the best poker tools in my own experience as a poker player:

1) Pokertracker 4 (PT4) – Price $99.99

PokerTracker is a must have software for every serious Spin and Go player.
With Pokertracker you can track and analyze your games, look at your graphs and your winnings, you can replay hands and run all sort of advanced reports and statistics.
Pokertracker also provides the engine for best poker HUDs and allows you to customize everything to the smallest detail.
Lifetime licence cost $99.99 and this is the best value for the money you can get.
I bought PokerTracker 10 years ago and used it every single time I played poker, thousands and thousands of hours.
It is my favorite poker toll and I have spent 100s of hours setting up and looking at different reports, customizing stats and analyzing hands in hand replayer.

2) Flopzilla – Price $25

Even though it costs only $25 Flopzilla is one of the most useful tools you can get for analyzing your hands on different boards. I would strongly recommend this tool for any novice player.
It is easy to use and to learn and in few weeks of use you can really get a big knowledge of how preflop ranges hit different boards and how much fold equity you have on various board textures.
This will have a big impact on your ROI and your winrate and can transform a losing player into a winner in a short time.

3) CardRunners EV (CREV) – Price $75

After you have mastered Flopzilla I recommend CREV as a next step.
Be careful though, CREV is not a tool for a novice player.
It is a very advanced tool and it has a steep learning curve, but if you are willing to put enough time and effort in learning CREV you will be able to model and solve any poker problem and situation that you can imagine.

4) Pio Solver – Price $249 Basic, $475 Pro, $1099 Edge version

I wouldn’t recommend PioSolver for any novice or low stakes player.
It is most expensive tool on our list and for a beginner it is better to start with cheaper or free tools on our list.
Once you have mastered Pokertracker, Flopzilla and CREV, and you are playing $60 buy-in and higher, only then I would recommend PioSolver.

That said, I think PioSolver is the best GTO solver on the market and you can learn a lot from it.
I use it a lot and it is one of my favorite poker tools.
It is a tool for finding optimal solution for preflop and posflop situations in holdem.

5) Simple Nash – Price Free

Simple Nash is a great free tool for solving Push/Fold situations in Spin’n’Go turnaments.

I use it a lot for solving 3-handed short hand scenarios. It is really simple to use and it is free.
It is definitely worth a try, you can learn a lot from it.

Other useful poker software that I use:

Equilab – Price Free

I use this tool often if I want to quickly check preflop equity of my hand vs villains range. I would definitely recommend it as one of the best free poker tools.

Starshelper – Price $35

If you are playing on Pokerstars Starshelper is a must have. The cost of $35 is probably the best investment you can make.
You can customize so many things with StarsHelper and display many useful things on your tables. My favorite options are Pot Odds display, Stack Sizes for each player, Player Positions, Action History, timings and bet sizing hotkeys.

Easy Street PT4

EasyStreet Standard – Price $38/year

EasyStreet is a HUD switching tool and if you are playing Spin and goes and have 2 different HUDs, this tool is a must have.
You can get a 30-days free trial for Easy Street from from this link: Click Here

Today I’m going to play Expresso SNG games on Winamax to check how our Spin and Go HUD works on that site.
I have never played on Winamax before and was curious about the site, I heard only good things about it.

Winamax is very popular in France, it’s even more popular than Pokerstars there and immediately after playing a few games there I can understand why. Winamax is the poker room with the best poker software. No other site comes even close.
I’m really impressed with all the options that software offers and with the beautiful graphics. Playing on Winamax just feel right, this is how the real poker site should look like.
Winamax also has a decent VIP reward system. They also have “The Expresso Challenge” weekly promotion where the players with the highest playing volume in Expresso games can earn lucrative prizes.
The games are filled with lots of recreational players and are very profitable, this coupled with all the promotions makes Winamax probably the best choice for playing 3-handed Jackpot SNG games right now. If you haven’t tried playing on Winamax before I highly recommend you to do so.

Of course, there are few things that I didn’t like.
Because of strict French laws the verification procedure is much more difficult than on the other poker sites. You have to send them your bank details and verify your home address. They send you a letter with a code and when you enter that code on the site only then you are fully verified.
Another thing that I didn’t like is that cashing-out from the site is only possible to your bank account.
It’s not possible to use Skrill or Neteller for that purpose.

Setting Up the HUD on Winamax Expresso tables was really easy and everything works perfectly fine as you can see in the video below:

I had a really good experience playing Expresso games, and playing on Winamax is really a pleasure so I will definitively be playing them more often in the future.

Party Poker recently introduced 3-handed Sit & Go Hero Special Edition games so I wanted to try them out.
They also intruduced 40% weekly cashback system so I was really courious if playing 3-handed games on Party is a good option.
PartPoker also updated their tables and lobby theme so it looks really good now.

I made a deposit and registered for a few $3 games just to get a feel of playing on a new site and to set-up our Spin and Go HUD panels correctly.
When I managed to set up the table and the HUD properly I wanted to register for some higher buy-in game and here I was disappointed.
Party Poker now only offers 3 buy-in levels for 3-handed SNG Hero games, $3, $50 and $100.
It was a really big jump for me to go from a $3 to $50 game straight away on a new site so I decided to play few more $3 games just to record a video for the site and then I gave up playing.
This is really unfortunate because I really wanted to have a try on Party Poker but playing $3 buy-in is too low for me and I don’t feel like playing $50 on a new site right now. If they had more buy-in levels in between I would definitely be playing more often there.
I hope they introduce $20 or $30 games soon.

I had no problems in setting Up a HUD on Party Poker. Both HUDs work without problems, they load fast and run smoothly and they look really good with the new Party’s dark table theme. Dark theme with grey table and grey background is my favorite, it keeps distractions at minimum so I can better focus on my game play and poker decisions.

Playing on Party Poker is really fun, there are lots of crazy players and maniacs so the games are very profitable.
For someone who is just starting playing 3-handed poker and is playing $3 games Party Poker is a great choice.
It might also be a good option for someone who wants to pay $50s and $100s, but most players would prefer to have more buy-in option in between and I really cant understand why Party doesn’t have them.

This week I will be playing Fish Party Sit and Goes on Betsson on MPN (formerly Microgaming Network).  MPN decided to introduce Fish Party SNG games last year trying to take its own share in massively popular 3-handed lottery format of poker.

The main difference between Fish Party games and Spin and goes on Pokerstars in that Fish Party has an ante from the start of the game. Some people may like this some people might not and in my opinion it is a great choice. It encourages players to play more hands from all position and as a consequence they make lot more mistakes.

I only played 15-20 Fish Party games so far and I really like them.
Graphic looks really good on the site and it has a potential to attract lots of recreation and fun players. Besson also offers some great promotions and VIP rewards so playing Fish Party games could definitely be a good option especially for low stakes and beginner players.

For people looking to play higher stakes or large number of tables there could be some issues with traffic if you are playing in non-peak hours. I tried playing at late night Euro time and because most of the players on the site are European players I found the traffic on the site really low at that time. That shouldn’t be an issue at peak times and at weekends though.

Setting up our Spin and Go  HUD on the site was easy, although for some reason it is not possible to place the HUD below the player on the right side, I found enough space on the table for all the panels.

Both 3-handed HUD and Heads Up HUD work fine and they look really nice on the tables, they blend in with Fish Party table colours really well.

I will definitely be playing more Fish Party games in the future. The player pool is really soft, most of the people playing them are recreational players so it is very profitable to play them.

Hi,
past few months we have been intensively testing our Spin and Go HUD on Pokerstars and I’m really happy how it works there and how it fits on the tables.
I think that we finally found a perfect balance for the HUD to have enough stats necessary for most situations and not to be overloaded with rarely used stats.

I know that some of you guys are playing on other, smaller sites and in next few weeks  I will be testing the HUD on  various poker networks that offer 3-handed tournaments. I’m interested to see how it fits on the tables there and if everything is working as we planed.

This week we will start with Twister Sit’n’Go games played on Coral Poker ( iPoker Network.)

I have been playing Twister poker for a few days and having a lots of fun.
I’m really happy how the HUD performs on iPoker and how it fits on the tables, everything works fine, although I couldn’t find a way to remove the roulette banner from the top right corner of the table.
Not sure if this is exclusive for Coral Poker or if all sites on iPoker have the same table layout.
This is little bit annoying but its not a huge deal, I positioned player panel on top of that banner and it doesn’t bother me much any more.
